Why HomeSeer?
"Homeseer was the most versatile and inexpensive product available at the time, and still is. It is excellent for beginners as well as advanced home automation enthusiasts, growing with you, and is especially suited to DIYers like me."

Favorite HomeSeer Feature:
"Scripting - by far the most-extensible feature of HS is the ability to use MS scripting technologies to extend and interface to/from HS and other products and programs, and even other computers. In fact, most aspects being done with some commercial plug-ins can actually be done with script programming. The plug-in just makes it faster and easier for beginners."

HomeSeer Implementation I'm Most Proud of:
"HS has its own mobile phone, and can send and receive SMS messages and act on them, giving me a near-real-time status of the home or reporting a system outage, etc. Reading of rain gauge data from my local weather station over the last 3 days controls the lawn sprinkler scheduling and activation to insure the lawn has enough water to stay green. Also, auto garage door open notification and closure should it be left open for more than a specified period, with a closure imminent warning."

Additional Technology:
PC Info:
Custom 900MHz AMD Duron, 512MB RAM, mirrored 20G drives, Equinox 64-port serial board
Lighting:
"Many lights in and outside the house are controlled by X-10 and HS (floodlights, pool lights, etc.). Several motion sensors help to detect people in areas which are then illuminated under HS control when conditions require lights. For example, HS controls the outside lights and automatically shuts them off at a certain hour. When an object approaches the walkway late at night, the lights turn on, and if the front door is then unlocked and opened, the interior foyer light also turns on. Lights are turned off after a few minutes of inactivity. Interior bathroom lights and fans are also automated using motion sensors and timing."
HVAC:
"At present I'm not using HS to control any environmental's as my current systems work fine, but it does use TEMP05 to report various inside and outside temperatures around the house, including the pool water temp (no heater yet!)."
Security:
"My GE Security Caddx alarm system is tied into HS for status updates and zone triggers. Some cameras are used for security purposes, as well."
Audio:
"TTS provided by PC speakers broadcasts throughout the house, while the three separate rooms with audio/video gear/racks are all controllable via HS, IR, web, and touchscreen. HSTV allows me to manage my viewing and recording choices from an automatically-updated schedule listing of all TV stations I care about, including all my satellite services. I also use streaming and playback technologies for audio (and soon video) services on my LAN. An Audrey in the master bedroom is constantly playing selections picked for the various activities at different times of the day."
Other:
"In addition to lighting and security, I also use digital cameras capable of still-frame capture as well as streaming over the LAN/Inet. I use the various sensors to direct capture and communication of camera shots when triggered by motion, etc. In addition, I also have some cameras with interactive pan and tilt bases, allowing more control and field of view. I'm in the process of automating some of those now. HS even knows when the mail as arrived in my mailbox, and tells me."
Comments:
"Also: Virtual Weather Station, CyberGenie, Perl, IIS Integration, MRTG, iVista, and more."
