Google Home Integration

HomeSeer partners with Google to offer a powerful way to control your home by voice!

GoogleHomeAss

Leverage the smart home power of Google Home with a HomeSeer home automation system! Google Home works seamlessly with HomeSeer via the Google Home voice assistant or your mobile device (locally or remotely!).

Requirements (things you'll need to get started)

Easy to Set Up and Use

This integration works with Google's built-in support for controlling smart home devices. At present, Google limits support to devices that can be turned ONOFF or Dimmed and colored smart bulbs.

Sample Syntax

  • "OK Google, turn on the living room light"
  • "OK Google, turn off the bathroom fan"
  • "OK Google, set the master bedroom light to orange"

Initial Setup

  1. Install the Google Home app on your mobile  device and follow the basic setup instructions shipped with your Google Home device.
  2. Go to MyHS.homeseer.com and create a MyHS account and link it with your HomeSeer system. Note the user login information as you will need that to link your HomeSeer system to Google Home.
  3. Launch the Google Home app and access the "hamburger menu" in the top left corner. Select "Home control".
  4. Click the "+" button at the bottom of the next screen to add devices and then select "HomeSeer" from the list that pops up.
  5. Our MyHS log in screen will now appear. Enter your MyHS credentials and click LOGIN. Google Home will now link to your HomeSeer system devices.
  6. At this point, you should be able to control any of your on/off/dim/color devices by voice with your Google Home device or with any mobile device running the Google Home app!

Adding or Removing Devices to/from Google Home After Initial Setup
If you add or remove devices from your HomeSeer system, you'll need to unlink and re-link your system to update your device list.

  1. Launch the Google Home app and access the "hamburger menu" in the top left corner. Select "Home control".
  2. Click the "+" button at the bottom of the next screen to add devices and then select "HomeSeer" from the list that pops up. This will UNLINK your system.
  3. Now select HomeSeer from the Home control list. Our MyHS log in screen will now appear. Enter your MyHS credentials and click LOGIN. Google Home will now link to your HomeSeer system and recreate your device list.

Other Considerations

  • By default, the names of linked HomeSeer devices will include both location attributes. Because of this, it is NOT NECESSARY to assign each device to a room.
  • Google Home includes a feature to create "nicknames" for devices. However, nicknames will be lost if you unlink and then relink your HomeSeer system.
  • Google limits voice commands to "On", "Off", "Dim" and "Color". If you wish to control a device that normally responds to other commands (like "Open" or "Close"), this can be done by creating and linking a virtual device to that other device and associating "On" with "Open" and "Off" with "Close". The results might seem a little unnatural ("OK Google, turn on the garage door"), but it would work.
