About Zigbee
Much like Z-Wave, Zigbee is a transmission protocol that is commonly used in smart-devices. It operates at frequencies of 2.4GHz to 915MHz in North America and has a data rate of 250kbs. Zigbee devices have a range of 33-328 feet indoors and a hypothetical range of around 980+ feet outdoors with some devices. Due to its relatively low power consumption Zigbee devices often have impressive battery life, only requiring replacement batteries twice a year on the low side but potentially once every two years in the case of some products. Zigbee devices offer additional security through the use of a 128-bit AES encryption.
